MMWD Board members have decided to move forward with a proposed $100-million 5-million gallon/day desalination facility on San Francisco Bay, as well as additional diversions from the Eel and Russian Rivers.
The proposed diversions from the Russian and Eels threaten already devastated salmon runs in these watersheds. The desalination facility is costly and energy intensive and would increase Marin's carbon footprint at a time when we need to be conserving more and more. The facility is estimated to cost over $100 million. Discharge from the facility could also negatively impact the San Francisco Bay.
In response to this $100 million desal boondoggle, citizen groups are working together and telling their elected MMWD board members to save water and money by stepping up water conservation measures, preventing widespread water waste through effective rates and outreach campaigns, and promoting rainwater harvesting and graywater.
Help make a difference and tell the Board you support MORE CONSERVATION and effective rate structures that curb waste and lead the way for a more sustainable Marin.
Bring a friend to the meeting and make an even bigger difference.
