Roots & Shoots, a program of the Jane Goodall Foundation, is about making positive change happen--for our communities, for animals and for the environment. With tens of thousands of young people in almost 100 countries, the Roots & Shoots network connects youth of all ages who share a desire to create a better world. Young people identify problems in their communities and take action. Through service projects, youth-led campaigns and an interactive website, Roots & Shoots members are making a difference across the globe.
This broader definition of community helps young people begin to see the important connections that exist among all living systems. Our model ensures that projects address real issues and are grounded in the needs of this broader community. As children become more and more involved in Roots & Shoots projects, they are learning a method of engagement that will be applicable throughout their lives. And, they are learning the importance of including animals and the environment around them in their service to the local community and the world. Our philosophy is based on the belief that every individual matters, every individual has a role to play and every individual makes a difference.

SPAWN, Salmon Protection and Watershed Network, is excited to announce our new collaboration with this prominent youth organization. With common goals of conserving the environment, protecting animals and supporting our human community we look forward to making progress by encouraging youth leadership. Our first program will be dedicated to water conservation education because of the critical role it plays in our web of life. Coordinating with local classrooms throughout the county, we are looking to spread the roots of this program to create a foundation for years to come.
Do you have interest in joining the efforts?! Contact Catie@tirn.net, SPAWN's Roots & Shoots Coordinator, to find out how.
