Every Saturday! - Habitat Restoration

November 30, 2011
Saturday, December 3rd & 10th, 2011: Creekside planting in Forest Knolls
Please join SPAWN as we plant native trees and grasses along a partnering landowner's creekside property in Forest Knolls. SPAWN is replacing a landowner's boring old lawn with a native riparian forest which will provide habitat for all kinds of native plants and animals. Native wildlife including the Coho salmon in San Geronimo Creek will benefit from a healthy, diverse riparian plant community and clean cool water. Planting will continue in Forest Knolls every Saturday morning until all of the plants are planted! Meet at the San Geronimo Valley Community Center located at 6350 Sir Francis Drake Blvd. at 10 A.M. Please contact Jonathan at (415) 663-8590 x. 114 or jonathan@tirn.net for more information. Also, please kindly RSVP if you plan to attend.

Saturday, December 17th, 2011: San Geronimo Creek Coho Habitat Restoration
One of the best things we can do to help save our endangered coho salmon is to make sure they have the right habitat in and along our local creeks! This means removing harmful, invasive plants and replacing them with native species beneficial to local wildlife. Come out, enjoy the sun and give us a hand! Join SPAWN as we restore the riparian corridor along San Geronimo Creek. We will continue to replace Himalayan blackberry and other invaders with native trees and shrubs to recreate a healthy riparian forest along San Geronimo Creek. Coho salmon and other wildlife with benefit from a diverse native plant community which will buffer and clean stormwater runoff, shade the creek, and provide habitat for birds, amphibians, and other wildlife. If you have any questions, please contact SPAWN Restoration Scientist Jonathan Appelbaum at jonathan@tirn.net or (415) 663-8590 (x 114). Kindly RSVP to jonathan@tirn.net if you plan to attend.
