JANUARY 18th, Marine Migration Seminar w/ Peter Pyle

October 31, 2006 through January 18, 2007
Seminar #2
GREAT MARINE MIGRATIONS
an evening with Marine Biologist, Peter Pyle

Stories of the awesome journeys of California's Albatross,
salmon, sharks, bats & insects as they migrate across
the world's largest Ocean.

WHEN: Thursday, Jan 18, 7:00PM
WHERE:
San Geronimo Valley Cultural Center, 6350 Sir Francis Drake Blvd in San Geronimo

Discover the amazing movement patterns of the albatross and various other creatures. Find out how they overcome the hardships and risks of long-distance travel through and over the often inhospitable and food-deprived ocean. The great flights of the albatross, which come to California to get food for their chicks over 4000 miles away, will be a primary focus. The fasting of whales, tuna, great white sharks, and other marine animals, as well as the surprising over-water journeys of various shorebirds, landbirds, insects, and bats will also be covered.

Peter Pyle worked as a Farallon Island Biologist for PRBO for 24 years, studying bird, bat, and butterfly migration and white sharks. He currently works for the Institute for Bird Populations and is a Research Associate for the California Academy of Sciences.

FREE. Donations are welcome. *Wheelchair accessible*

Phone: 415-488-0370 * Spawn@SpawnUSA.org * www.SpawnUSA.org

SPAWN is a Marin-based non-profit organization dedicated to protecting endangered coho salmon and steelhead trout and the environment on which we all depend. In the spirit of exploring the larger watersheds the salmon inhabit, and the ecological connections that we all work to protect, this season we welcome local experts on the ecology of the Farallon Islands, trans-Pacific marine migrations, spotted owls and redwoods, amphibians, coho salmon (of course!) and the environmental and human health impacts of commonly used pesticides. Seminars will take place every 3rd Thursday of the month (excluding winter solstice). Please help us spread the word!
