Empowering Youth Expression Through Arts and Hip-Hop Culture

"Sprout your Creativity - Nourish your Inspiration - Harvest your Dreams"

On April 21st at the SGVCC, local youth artists, groups and performers will unite to infuse creative art consciousness into the local Marin County youth by providing a diversity of art forms that can help bridge the cultural, ethnic and age gaps in the Marin County youth.

Sprout Fest will offer Free Workshops for Youth in their Teens and Twenties from Noon - 5:30pm. Sprout Fest's free workshops will feature some the pillars of Hip Hop culture by providing workshops of B-Boyin/Girlin (Breakdancing), Beat Boxing, MC'in and a Graffiti Mural Project with the intent to represent some of the essence of Hip Hop culture in a creative and positive way. Other inspiring workshops will include Spoken Word Poetry, Capoeira, Juggling, Poi Ball Dancing, Mural Painting, Food Conciousness, West African Drumming, Social/ Art Activism With Next Generation and much more. Free healthy food will also be provided for nourishing the hungry youth taking workshops.

Sprout Fest will end with a sliding scale, all ages evening performance featuring RADIO ACTIVE as the evening Host. The performance will feature GREEN ROOM, BAGA BAE and D.U.S.T and will showcase the artistic talent of the workshop leaders featuring performances by Urban Apache B-Boys, Capoeira Mandinga, Shatzi Rainbow Fire dancing, and Spoken Word Poet Jahan Khalighi. The performance will also feature a live Hip Hop collaboration jam by local Youth musicians, MC's Beat Boxers and DJ's. As well as an MC (rock tha crowd Battle) B-Boy(1on1) Battle and a Grafiti competition for a cash prize.

The vision of the Sprout Fest is to plant new seeds of inspiration into the youth, nourish the sprouts that have taken root in their artistic path, and honor the wisdom of the ones that have come before us and have shown us the way. Sprout Fest has been inspired from local events like the Bean Fest, S.K.I.P Youth Art events, as well as many other community celebrations, local artists and community members.

The Sprout Fest is being developed, promoted and produced by youth for youth in conjuction with the San Geronimo Valley Community Center. We would like to thank the Marin Arts Council for their support of this project.
