ACTION: Nov 15 Public Scoping in WoodacrePUBLIC SCOPING SESSION - "Environmental Impact Report for Sir Francis Drake Boulevard Rehabilitation Project" WHEN: Saturday Nov 15 from 10AM - 12PM WHERE: Woodacre Improvement Club, 1 Garden Way, Woodacre. SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS: http://spawnusa.org/pages/page-236 Marin County Department of Public Works is proposing to make road "improvements" on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard along sensitive reaches of Lagunitas Creek in Samuel P. Taylor State Park-- some of the most beautiful and important stream habitat remaining for coho salmon in California. Possibilities include: * Widening Sir Francis Drake Boulevard * Removing 24 trees, including redwoods as large as 6.5-feet in diameter! * Building a new tunnel along Lagunitas Creek to facilitate diverted traffic. This coming Saturday, Nov 15th from 10am-12pm the County will hold a scoping meeting to receive public input into its Environmental Impact Report for this project. WE NEED YOU to show up and ask the right questions and ensure that proper environmental review is formulated. We need a strong turnout to SPEAK UP FOR THE FISH and assure that ANY work done does not harm endangered salmon and actually reduces the negative impact the road already creates for salmon and steelhead. Please attend and: * REQUEST AN OUTLINE AND ANALYSIS OF MEANINGFUL ALTERNATIVES TO THE ROAD-WIDENING PROPOSAL * SPEAK OUT AGAINST REMOVAL OF 24 REDWOOD AND OAK TREES * REQUIRE THAT ANY ROAD MODIFICATION ALSO INCLUDE IMPROVEMENTS FOR COHO SALMON AND STEELHEAD HABITAT. E.g. Remove and retrofit fish passage barriers that block fish from reaching upstream habitat; road designs that minimize toxic stormwater from leaching off the road into the Creek. * SPEAK UP FOR USE OF EXISITNG PARK BIKE-HIKE PATH FOR BICYCLE SAFETY, NOT ROAD WIDENING.
